Vector Magic is a new Photoshop plugin that simplifies creating complex shaded images using Photoshop's built-in features. By Steve Butts Updated: 9 May pm. Max has a real problem. He got a new orange magic marker in the mail and, without realizing just how "magic" it really was, immediately drew a monster who came to life and invaded his other drawings.
Now, armed with his trusty reality-creating marker, Max sets off on a quest to capture him. As good as the visuals are, the puzzles weren't all that challenging, at least at first. When you begin, you'll be thrilled by the prospect of creating entirely original solutions to the puzzles in front of you. Unfortunately, the first few levels offer little that can't be solved with simple ramps or bridges. Stick with it though and you'll soon find that things get a bit more complex. Before long, you'll have to create seesaws to catapult up to inaccessible areas, baskets to carry you along cables, and even umbrellas to capture floating balloons.
None of it is too terribly challenging, but it's still a lot of fun to interact with the game this way. Since this is a platformer, the tablet approach that worked so well with Crayon Physics Delux just doesn't seem to fit as well here. You'll be just as worried about moving and jumping with the keyboard as you will about drawing the constructs needed to get around, so the game skews a bit more towards action than it does toward puzzles.
Still, it's the drawing gimmick that makes the platforming work, so whether you're building a stable platform to ride a whale spout or a shell to protect you from falling rocks, there's a nice interaction that makes the whole stronger than the sum of it's parts. The visual style and nice mix of platforming and drawing are sure to help it stand out, but the game doesn't match the depth of some of the better entries in the field. Was this article informative?
