Thanks for your feedback. I could not find that update installed on my computer, so I don't think that is the issue. Outlook in safe mode also froze my computer. I haven't tried it in Additional notes The update has been pulled from Microsoft Update; there is no need to disable Microsoft Update anymore to prevent the update from being reapplied.
EXE file as a quick and dirty fix no future guarantees! Make sure that the file version is EXE file which would be either version EXE file when a permanent fix is being made available. Check event viewer logs in Windows XP to know the cause of the issue, check the link below for more information.
My Norton still freezes before scan is over. If I go to C drive to the dialer exe in i my computer locks up. This cannot be normal I did disk check, What do I need to do? Thanks if I go to that folder with Norton to scan when I try to open the file the computer to scan it locks up. I also just went into C drive without Norton and the computer locked up after going to dialer before I could open it.
I will go thru steps and get back with you in few days I am not computer savy and I will get my brother an engineer to help. Don't go to that folder anymore! Just see what all the scans find and if any of them get hung up in the same place. However, I do not believe the reason you are locking up at that point is due to malware. Thanks I will not go to that folder.
All scans stop and get locked there and my entire computer locks too. Littlefield , Mar 26, Try scanning from safe mode and if it still locks up, try delete that whole i folder. Problem is that it may lock up while trying to delete the folder. Still sounds like a possible disk error or file corruption error.
Scheduling was set to once per week on friday evenings. But It didn't worked with one time backups too. I could not recognize any patterns in behavior when it hung except of that it had to be at least second run of a Backup Job. It was not important if it was the same job or another. I will install Ghost again and try out if it works correct without NIS. Another thing to try would be to do your second backup about an hour after the first backup completes. I have seen this happen once or twice in the past when the incremental backup occurs after a large number of changes have occured on the drive bitmap, but not enough to cause a new base to be created.

This thread is closed from further comment. I"ll check the box for Dell Support Center. It started several weeks ago, and was a rare random event. It has happened more and more frequently lately, to the point where I have to power down several times per hour. My last two Dells slowly disintegrated this way, and I have no idea why. I will never buy another Dell as long as I live. Another problem that I've had with two computers in a row is that the System Restore function doesn't work any more.
Every time I ask it to restore to another date, it tells me that it can't do it. No matter what date I choose, it is impossible to do a system restore. That happened months ago, but since I don't use system restore, I haven't spent the time to track down why this is happening. Is it possible that it's just faulty hardware? Is there a way to find out, so I can ask Costco to give me my money back if it's hardware related? Thank you all. You're very nice to help people out like this.
Also, not getting help from Dell; that is like descending into Dante's inferno.
