Apr 3, 10, Central Michigan. Why do you want to pay for the HR21 pro? It is still a slow receiver. Even though it would be leased, you would be much better off with an HR24 in almost any situation. The only advantage to the HR21P is owned status, the long-range HDMI transmission thing expensive and better cooling with rack mout capability. Does the HR24 have the same recording capacity as the HR21?

Has anyone here tried to control a new directv hr21pro using the IR input jack on the back of the unit? I hooked up a XP8 Using a standard Niles mono mini to mini cable but it doesn't seem to be working. Thanks, Kurt. Thanks for the input. I was able to get it gong splicing a mono jack to a stereo jack. Thanks again for the help. I realize this thread is rather old and perhaps I should start a new one, but let's see what happens Google brought me straight to this site, this forum and this thread.
So, I promptly fabricated the necessary cable, with a mono mini-plug on one end and a stereo mini-plug on the other. Sleeve is connected to sleeve, ring on stereo plug to tip on mono plug and tip on stereo plug not used. The mono end is plugged into a Xantech Connecting Block emitter-out port. So began troubleshooting. How weird is this? Not only is it weird, but it has now caused the rest of my IR repeater system all Xantech to become unresponsive. Obviously, I'm perplexed.
Can anybody set me straight and enlighten me as to what the heck is going on here? Well, I just checked it per your suggestion and no voltage at all across the two leads coming out of the HR21PRO, which frankly, is what I expected to find because the first thing I did when I realized I had a problem was to double-check and triple-check the integrity of my connections.
I certainly appreciate the help, but we're not there yet What I may have to end up doing is installing an IR emitter inside the unit, as I've done with all my other gear that does not have a rear-panel IR IN jack. Well, just to wrap this up, and in case anyone is interested, severals hours worth of tinkering yielded the following results: First, I managed to round up a spare Xantech Connecting Block, IR Receiver and Power Supply. It worked perfectly. So, the problem lies within my "real" IR repeater system.
From there, the problem becomes much more complex, for the simple reason that my IR repeater system is, well, complex. The number of different Xantech IR devices on the system is rather impressive, as is the number of components being controlled. Frankly, this is not the first time my IR repeater system showed evidence of containing "gremlins". The unit gets opened up and I fasten a "bare" IR emitter to the IR receiver diode behind the front panel using a hot-melt glue gun, and routed the emitter wire out the back of the unit.
I reassembled the HR21PRO, reinstalled it in my rack, plugged in all connectors including plugging the mini-plug on the end of the IR emitter into an available jack in the connecting block and everything's functioning flawlessly. Thanks, Stew. I had a similar issue to StewDog. I wired my own cable per instructions above. It worked perfectly as long as it was the only IR lead plugged into my Xantech I doubled checked everything from the Xantech IR Reciever Unlike StewDog there was nothing complex with my setup.
I have a wired 12v, ground, and IR to the The is connected to its power connector. Plug in the HR21 Pro that I create and everything works fine. Add any other connector, even a flasher, and it stops working. All other combinations of sleeve, tip, and ring yield no result even when it's the only thing plugged in. I don't know what else to do. Perhaps these xantech blocks just don't work with HR21 Pro? Last edited by JimSa on October 1, I happened to have a brand new in box.
I subsituted it, thinking that the connection block might have a problem. I get the exact same behavior.
